At Coostar, we believe music is more than sound—it’s self-expression, freedom, and the soul’s voice. Each mandolin we create is not just an instrument, but a companion for your journey—whether you play in the quiet of your home or under the lights of a grand stage.

The Journey of a Craftsman

“I’ve devoted 25 years to a single pursuit—building instruments that truly resonate.”

In 2000, I stepped into the world of luthiery, mastering the delicate art of creating instruments that carry soul within their sound. From 2005 to 2009, I joined SAGA and co-developed the renowned Kentucky KM-1000 and KM-1500 models.

In 2009, I became part of the founding team of Northfield’s China workshop, shaping designs, pioneering new finishes, and refining tonewoods for 14 years.

In 2023, I began a new chapter. Coostar was born—a brand dedicated to giving musicians not just instruments, but voices to express their individuality.

"Do it right, or don't do it at all."For many years, this has been my life's motto. If I haven't reached the pinnacle in my field, I relentlessly seek out every resource I can find. I learn from the mentors who first guided me, from fellow professionals, and by studying the works of international masters. I also delve into various styles displayed online. I'll meticulously research their methods, experiment with techniques, and keep going until I completely understand the underlying principles. To achieve certain color effects, I even studied the origins, characteristics, and cutting techniques of raw materials. I've also mastered the chemical processes involved in synthetic and natural lacquer formulas, including the precise ratios, pressure, and temperature. I lead my team to constantly improve, all to ensure our work stands out and reaches the top tier.

We craft instruments that inspire individuality, spark creativity, and bring joy to every moment of music-making. Because in the flow of music, even an ordinary day becomes extraordinary—and in that moment, you are the brightest star.

The fingerboard is cut, fitted, and aligned to guarantee accuracy and playability

Finishing & Polishing

Several coats of varnish are applied, protecting the wood and enhancing its natural beauty.

In 2023, I started Coostar and gathered a small team around me. We work side by side—discussing wood, design, and craft—learning from one another as we shape each instrument. What began as my personal journey has grown into a workshop where hands, minds, and hearts come together to build mandolins with honesty and care.
